A study of the PPCPs and Estrogen distribution and predictive modeling in Korea and Japan

Environmental Quality Prediction Sub-department, Division of Environmental Material Science and Technology, Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering
Place of stay: University of Seoul (Korea)
Term: November 13, 2011 – November 20, 2011
I measured 61 Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) in the samples taken from municipal wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and Kyung-ahn River in Korea to understand their occurrence and comparison of seasonal concentrations in Korean WWTPs and Kyung-ahn River.
The objects of my research are as follows: 1. To clarify the occurrences of hazardous chemicals and pathogens in the aquatic environment in two countries with considering the differences in sewage, geological conditions, weather and usage of chemicals. 2. To establish field-survey-based basin-scale model for predicting the concentrations of chemicals and pathogens in river water. 3. To establish appropriate risk proposal and management strategy.
Clearly this internship has been amazing for me for so many reasons. In the years to come, I hope to participate in internship.
