3rd GSGES Global COE Workshop in FY2008 - Research activities in overseas Asian universities -

Outline

The Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies is conducting the Strategic Program for Fostering Environmental Leaders, funded by the Special Coordination Funds of MEXT, "International Center for Human Resource Development in Environmental Management (EML Program)" together with other graduate schools at the Kyoto University. As the first symposium of the EML program was hold in Kyoto on March 5, 2009, many overseas researchers visited Kyoto University, which included researchers from the overseas bases of this Global COE. This workshop had presentations of research activities of foreign researcher mentioned above, aiming at understanding their research activities, exchanging information among Global COE members and overseas-base/relevant-organization researchers, and fostering future collaborative research activities.

Report

This workshop was participated by three faculty members of the Hanoi University of Technology, three faculty members of the Hue University, one faculty member of the Tsinghua University, one faculty of the Hanoi Architecture University, three faculty members of the Danang University of Technology, seven faculty members of the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University, one researcher of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, and five students of Kyoto University. After the introduction of this workshop by Prof. Shigeo Fujii, five presentations were given on their research activities by two universities in Hanoi, the Hanoi University of Technology and the Hanoi Architecture University, among which four was presented by the school/faculty/institutes of the former university, and one was done by the latter. Also, two reports were provided by universities in central Vietnam, the Hue University and the Danang University of Technology, respectively. At the last, one report was presented by a university in China, the Tsinghua University. Each presentation was followed by active discussion. Through the workshop, various research activities of each university were understood among participants, and also participants understand each other, leading to the future collaborative research activities. This workshop was closed with great success.
