Outline

19th KAIST-KU-NTU-NUS (KKNN) Symposium on Environmental Engineering was held at Kyoto University Clock Tower Centennial Hall, organized by the Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University on 27-30 June, 2010. It was an annual symposium on environmental engineering among four institutions in Asia: Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Kyoto University (KU), National Taiwan University (NTU), and National University of Singapore (NUS). The purpose of this symposium was to exchange latest information on environmental engineering researches among the four universities.

Report

The symposium was mainly composed of two parts: oral presentations, and hybrid poster presentations. The oral presentations included 18 research reports, which had a big variety of topics in environmental engineering. Examples of topics were global worming issues, water or wastewater treatment, sludge treatment, waste management, and life cycle assessment. After each presentation, participants actively discussed their on-going research. The poster presentation contained 18 researches. The presenters had short oral presentations at a podium and also had presentations in front of their posters. Many participants gave questions to the presenters at poster slots. Together with presentations, we held a reception among participants, offering the Japanese professors a chance to strengthen the ties with the researchers from three distinguished Asian universities, and also organized a technical tour to an incineration plant in Kyoto city. Through the symposium, the participants were able to exchange latest knowledge on environmental engineering, and to have a mutual understanding of each other. Thus, the symposium completed with great success.
