Outline

With the progress of serious global warming issues that has been spreading globally, an effective and international research and educational activity to solve such issues are required in Environmental Engineering Field.
In particular, for Japan, further cooperation with Asian countries that have been achieving rapid economic growth becomes increasingly important. The purpose of this workshop is promote and enhance such cooperation between countries, with a central focus on Asia, to take a look at trends of environmental research in Asia as well as water business in overseas under the Kyoto University Global COE Program "Global Center for Education and Research on Human Security Engineering for Asian Megacities" and Environmental Management Leader Program "International Center for Human Resource Development in Environmental Management". In addition, the exchange of information on the latest and practical environmental engineering and technologies that is oriented towards solving health risk issues in Asian countries were held with the poster presentations in the poster session.

Report

In the workshop, various presentations were held as follows: "Practice for Water Environment Safety in Pearl River Delta Area of Southern China" by Prof. ZHANG (Tsinghua University), "Development of Water Environmental Researches in Vietnam" by Prof. Fujii (Kyoto University), "International Development of Waterworks in Osaka City" by Mr. Kiyoshi Miyauchi (Osaka Municipal Waterworks Bureau), "Global Center for Urban Sanitation Facilitating Global Development of Japan Water Businesses" by Mr. Osamu Fujiki (Japan Institute of Wastewater Engineering Technology), and "Safety Drinking Water Supply from Highly Turbid Surface Water in Southeast Asia" by Mr. Shigeru Hatsumata (METAWATER Co., Ltd.) and "Hitachi Plant Technologies' Activity in Gobal Water Treatment Business" by Mr. Masahiro Goto (Hitachi Plant Technologies, Ltd.) from the private sector's perspectives.
