Outline

Policy evaluation is one of the most important issues for those who are engaged in public policies. A wide range of public policy concerns, like air quality, environmental resource consumption, social equity, land use, urban growth, economic development, safety, and security are necessary to be investigated. CGE models are one of the effective tools for policy evaluation. It is very important for those involved in policy making to develop such tools by your own. From such a viewpoint, this course is aimed at providing fundamental concept and/or knowledge associated with CGE modeling and results of application. Benefits of the course is to obtain the fundamental knowledge of Input-Output analysis, systems of national accounts, basic framework of CGE modeling, the role of cross-border infrastructure on national economy, and methodology to evaluate policies.

In the first day of the course, Dr. Matsushima explained the introduction in the course. Dr. Phouphet explained “Trade Liberalization, Pollution and Poverty: Evidence from Laos ". Dr. Kim explained “Basic of Input-Output Table”. From the afternoon, Dr. Kim explained “Input-Output Analysis". Dr. Yoshida explained “Systems of National Accounting”. Dr. Matsushima explained "Model Closure and Structure of a Basic CGE Model”.
In the second day, Dr. Yoshida explained “A CGE Model with Government”. Mr. Senda explained "A CGE Model with Transportation Sector" and "Policy Evaluation -An Example-". From the afternoon, Prof. Kiyoshi explained "Green IO". Prof. Mun explained “Cross-boarder transportation facilities”.
About 70 participants attended the course in total, many students ask quetions, reflecting a growing interest in CGE modeling.
