Outline
EIT-JSCE Joint International Symposium on Geotechnical Infrastructure Asset Management 2011 is being held for the purpose of technical knowledge exchange between Japan and Thailand in the field of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. At this symposium, in addition to "General Session", there will be "Young Engineers & Graduate Students Session" to provide an opportunity for Japanese and Thai students/young engineers in this field to make presentations in English. text text
Report
EIT-JSCE Joint International Symposium on Geotechnical Infrastructure Asset Management 2011 was held on August 29 and 31, 2011 at the Imperial Queen’s Park hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. "General Session" was held on August 29, and the "Young Engineers & Graduate Students Session" was held on August 30. The "Field Trip" to Tha Dan Dam and Landslide Monitoring Site was also held on August 31. This symposium, first held in 2002, is aimed at technological knowledge exchange between Japan and Thailand in the field of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. This year the tenth symposium was co sponsored by he Global COE Program "Global Center for Education and Research on Human Security Engineering for Asian Megacities", Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT), and Asian Institute of Technology. This year is the forth time that the "Young Engineers & Graduate Students Session" was being held. There were a total of 27 oral presentations at the session. The Excellent Presentation Prize was awarded two of each session, totally eight students and young engineers, including six Japanese, for their excellent presentations. At the "General Session", intended for introducing technological knowledge from Japan and Thailand in the field of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. Prof. Emeritus Yuzuru Ashida (Environment, Energy, Forestry and Agriculture Network) gave a lecture titled "Sustainable New Energy". Special session 2011 Off-Tohoku Earthquake was set this year. In the special session lectures on seismogenic faults, observation using interferometric synthetic aperture rader and disaster mitigation countermeasures were delivered by Dr. Tsuji, Prof. Matsuoka and Dr. Duran (all with Kyoto University), respectively. There were 70 participants in total: 45 from Japan and 25 from Thailand. Upon this successful tenth symposium, it is planned to continuously promote exchange among students and researchers, including at future symposiums hosted by Japan, in the field of geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics in Southeast Asia region and Japan.
