Outline

The International Seminar on "Sanitation Constraints Analysis and Potential Alternatives Screening for Asia" was held at Evergreen Place Bangkok, Asian Institute of Technology and Mahidol University on 9-11 October, 2011. The seminar objective is to have a discussion on the achievement in FY2010 and how to improve the algorithm for sanitation constraints analysis among international collaborators (Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh).

Report

Together with 13 faculty members and 8 researchers plus 3 students among international collaborators (Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh), participants were as follows: 4 professors, 1 associate professor, 1 senior lecturer, 5 lecturer, 2 assistant professors, a postdoctoral researcher, 3 researchers, 2 staff, 1 doctoral student, and 3 master students. In the first day, seminar Part 1 (Sanitation constraints analysis) was held at Conference room, AITCC, Asian Institute of Technology, Pathum Thani, Thailand. The seminar opened with the remarks by Dean, School of Engineering and Technology, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and Vice President of AIT. The seminar was following by introductory remarks on the seminar and its objectives by Prof. Shigeo Fujii, Kyoto University. The objective in this first session is to obtain the summary report of sanitation situation in 8 cities (Hue, Kathmandu, Johor Bahru, Bangkok, Hanoi, Danang, Khulna and Kandy).
In the second day, the second session of the seminar was held at seminar room, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University, Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. The second session's topic is "Screening alternatives". The session opened with the remarks from Vice President and Vice Dean of Engineering Faculty. The seminar starts from the explanation of the project goal by Prof. Shigeo Fujii (Kyoto University). The second presenter was Dr. Jinbo from NIES explaining about the algorithm development and demonstrating the software. Next, there was a trial use of the software and got the feedback from international collaborators. In the afternoon, we went for a field visit at sludge treatment facility at Nonthaburi municipality. In the third day, we went for a field visit at Nongkham wastewater treatment plant (Bangkok). The valuable discussion on sanitation situation and development of algorithm had been done throughout the workshop. This workshop was closed with great success.
