Outline
In the 21st century, the globalization of environmental issues and the innovation of environmental technology develop the eco business. The environmental protection industry has the powerful driving force of the economic growth. Besides, the environmental protection industry holds the key position while industrial structure changes in many countries. The purpose of the symposium is to establish the platform of cooperation and interchange for "industry”, “academia”, “governments” and “users" at a high level.

At this symposium, the scholars and the business leaders of the environmental companies were invited, and they were discussed about the cutting-edge environmental technologies from the viewpoint of the development and the application.
At the beginning of symposium, Prof. KANG Feiyu, dean of graduate school at Shenzhen, Tsinghua univ., Mr. ZHANG Jianan, vise-director of Shenzhen municipal people’s gov., Mr. ZHOU Luming of Association of Shenzhen Science and Technology and Prof. Tsuno ex-leader of cooperative research center, Kyoto univ. address the opening remarks. In their speech, the expectations to the symposium were expressed.
In the keynote speech session, firstly, Mr. HAN Wei of China Association of Environmental protection industry introduced the present status and future work of environmental protection industry in China. Secondly, Mr. REN Guanping of Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences showed the outline of research activities on environmental science in China. Then Prof. NIE Yongfeng of Tsinghua University gave a short lecture titled the development of solid waste treatment technologies in China.
The next session was “mutual exchanges” among coastal cities. The representatives of coastal city’s society for environmental sciences discussed about the environmental problem in coastal cities and the needs for technologies. The cities included Shenzhen, Dalian, Qingdao, Ningbo and Xiamen. Then “the declaration of coastal cities” was adopted at the symposium.
At the beginning of next session, Prof. TANAKA Hiroaki of Kyoto University made a presentation about the urban water reuse which enables to develop cities sustainably. Secondly, Prof. HU Hong-Ying of Tsinghua University deliver a talk on the challenge of water pollution control in China and some other speaker made presentations about the status of technology development for each environmental field such as soil pollution control and low carbon energy.
At the last session, some cutting-edge environmental technologies were introduced by private environmental companies including Japanese companies – Meidensha and Maezawa.
Through the symposium, participants were able to deepen the understanding about the present status of pollution control in coastal cities in China and the needs of new technologies for environmental preservation.
