Outline
At the final fiscal year of the Global COE program and the EML program of Kyoto Univ. which were carried out since 2008, The Symposium was aimed at introducing achievement of the programs and discussing about the development of future activities. Furthermore, the symposium aimed at creating the opportunity to cooperate between Kyoto Univ., Tsinghua Univ. and private companies which are considering the business deployment in south China by providing the forum for discussion between universities, organizations and companies.

tIn advance of the symposium, study tour of Cooperative Research and Education Center, Kyoto Univ. - Tsinghua Univ. (CRECET) was carried out for participants mainly from private companies on December 14th. In the afternoon, participants visited the Binhe Wastewater Treatment Plant and Meilin Water Purification Plant.
In the symposium on December 15th, firstly Prof. Feiyu Kang, the dean of GSSZ, Tsinghua Univ. made an welcoming address. Prof. Shigeo Fujii addressed the opening remarks on behalf of the organizer. The objective of the symposium and expectation to the result were expressed in his speech. Mr. Makoto Yao of Maezawa Industries, Inc. gave a speech on behalf of the Consociation of CRECET. He mentioned the background of CRECET as an endowed course and addressed the expectation to the future development of CRECET.
In the beginning of keynote session, Prof. emeritus Nobuo Takeda of Kyoto Univ. introduced the progress of cooperation between Kyoto Univ. and Tsinghua Univ. Prof. Hiroaki Tanaka of Kyoto Univ. and Prof. Xihui Zhang showed the current activities of CRECET. At the research session, both universities faculty made presentations about their research and cooperation. Hybrid style session (i.e. combination of short-presentation and poster) was held in this symposium. The information of cutting-edge technology was delivered from some companies and research overviews were also showed from young researchers in the hybrid session.
Through this symposium, participants were able to deepen understanding about the achievement from the cooperation of both universities and were also able to deepen exchanges with young researchers and people from private companies.
