Landslide Mitigation Development in Thailand and Join for EIT-JSCE Symposium

Construction Engineering and Management, Division of Geo-Management, Department of Urban Management, Graduate School of Engineering
Place of stay: Kasetsart University in Bangkok, Thailand
Term: August 16 – September 9, 2010
My main objectives were to learn the development of landslide risk management in Thailand, to visit the slope monitoring and to join the EIT-JSCE (Engineering Institution of Thailand-Japan Society for Civil Engineers) Symposium on Engineering for Geo-Hazards held in Thailand.
Through this internship, I received suggestions from the professors and researchers of the Geotechnical Engineering Research Development Center (GERD) at Kasetsart University in Thailand. Through my research, there was a discussion related to Thai researches on landslide that have been developed over many years. This discussion gave me much useful information on researches such as geology of Thailand related to landslide potential, Antecedent Precipitation Index (API), etc. When I visited the monitoring site, I saw the radar rainfall gauge system installed and learned how to solve the problem on damaged instruments. In the symposium of EIT-JSCE, I was given the award as one of the good speakers.
This internship was beneficial for me to determine the direction of my future research and brought some ideas that can be applied to my studies.
