The main objective of the RESD program was to establish personal connection between participating Ph.D students, from the seven universities in Japan, China, and Korea, prospective environmental researchers and leaders in East Asia in the next generation. We participant students attended lectures on regional environment and sustainable development by various professors, through which we were able to discuss the current environmental situations in the three countries in East Asia. We also visited many environmental sites such as wastewater treatment plants and steel plants, where we learned ongoing disaster and environmental problems and the efforts to overcome the problems. Through these activities, we were able to develop the communication network.
