Low-Carbon Society development towards 2025 in Bangladesh

Laboratory of Thermal and Atmospheric Engineering, Department of Urban and Environmental Engineering, Graduate School of Engineering
Place of stay: Khulna University, Bangladesh
Term: September 8. 2011 - October 20, 2011
The main objective of this internship is to introduce our work on the Low-Carbon Society development towards 2025 in Bangladesh and find out the feasibility to apply the concept in making development plan for Bangladesh. Our research work on this topic is the first initiative to develop a concept of low-carbon energy mix and energy efficiency improvement which can meet the challenge of CO2 emission reduction and energy development in Bangladesh. We have discussed with some key-persons, policy makers and development planners of the government of Bangladesh from Institutes and Department of Environment as well as some universities. During the meeting with professors and policy makers, we have presented our research work and others work applying in some Asian countries like Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and India. We have received some comments, suggestions and ideas from them for feasible application of low-carbon concept which mainly focuses the 5th pillar-“Mitigation and Low Carbon development" of BCCSAP (Bangladesh Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan), 2009.
Another objective is to collect data for the next project of estimation of CO2 emission from Agriculture, Forestry and Other Landuse sectors in Bangladesh. This is an extended part of the previous study to cover the non-energy sectors of the country.
